SRR Board Design

I still have to figure out what sort of line-following we're going to do.  We could have blank boards, full lines to follow, or just a small alignment area in the middle of each square

Making boards

I got together with some friends and built some boards for Super Robo Rally.  We're planning on building about two hundred of the boards, and in the first day, we built about 50.
There were only about ten of us building on the first day.

On the second day, we had less-experienced help...

Robo Rally Board

We've been talking about how the whole board is going to be made for Robo Rally.  My sister is still trying to draw up elements (squares).  However, I had a realization the other day, that there's not a good reason to limit the board size to 8x8 squares (with a boarder).  Turns out, we can make it much bigger than that.  So, the plan will be to make it 12 squares on one side, and at least 12 on the other side.  With the parts I currently have available, it looks like I could go up to about 18 squares, on the long side.

Yes, that's getting large.  :)

Never fear, we're still making progress.

MC & RR

Latest updates on Monster Chess & Robo Rally.  Bryan, John and I took Monster Chess up to iHobby in Chicago and showed it for two days.  It won the "Robot Talent Show" as the best Chibots' display.

MC II is currently at LEGOWorld with Ron and Martyn.  And, there's a very well written story about MC in the November issue of Popular Science.

Last week, I also received over 170k parts that we're going to use to make boards for Robo Rally.  This should be a fun game to play.

Monster Chess

Just a couple days ago, I sent Monster Chess II off to California.  After a short stop there, it will head to LEGOworld for a week.  I hope it makes it back safely.

Super Robo Rally

I'm going to jump right into blogging about our next big project.  Many of my friends have seen Monster Chess.  Our next project is a monster-sized version of the board game RoboRally.  For now, I think we'll go with the name Super Robo Rally.

When we were working on Monster Chess, I wanted to keep it a secret until we unveiled it.  With SRR, we're planning on laying out the design process right here.  Everyone should be able to watch it unfold.  Things will change as we progress.  But for now, I'd like to know how others think it should look.

Welcome to my world

I finally decided to start my own blog.  Most of this will be my own thoughts, ideas & projects, but I may try to get my friends to chip in a bit.
